One man died and another was critically injured in a two-vehicle accident late Monday on Nortonville Road in Waverly.

Morgan County Coroner Jeff Lair said Patrick Grider, 32, of Loami died from injuries suffered in an accident on Nortonville Road about 11:55 p.m.

Waverly Fire Chief Glen Brown said a 2003 Ford pickup truck was going east when it ran a stop sign and collided with a tow truck that was going south on Illinois Route 111.

Both Grider and his passenger were ejected from the truck. Grider was pronounced dead on arrival.

The other occupant of the pickup truck was flown to a Springfield hospital and was in serious condition but stable Tuesday afternoon, according to Illinois State Police. His name has not been released.

The tow truck driver was taken to Passavant Area Hospital for arm and back pain and was in serious condition but stable Tuesday, according to state police.

State police are investigating.
