A Caneyville woman fled from police on foot despite sub-zero temperatures during the early morning hours of Tuesday, Dec. 7.

Deputy Joey Beasley, with the Grayson County Sheriff's Office, responded to a 911 call regarding a reported assault at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Beasley said that when he arrived at the Walnut Grove Road residence in Caneyville, he was alerted that two individuals had fled from the rear of the house.

According to Beasley, he only discovered one individual, 34-year-old Kelly R. Wright, running across the back lawn, and issued verbal commands for her to stop. When those commands were ignored, Beasley gave chase and subdued Wright after she scaled a barbed-wire fence and continued to flee.

Wright had in her possession at the time a brown paper bag, Beasley said. “As soon as I got her cuffed, I could smell the marijuana in the bag.”

Beasley said that he discovered three plastic grocery bags, each being filled a quarter- to half-full with trimmed marijuana.

Additionally, the bag contained a 'roach,' or the remainder of rolled marijuana which had been smoked; and three spoons, each with a white substance on it and burn marks on the bottom. The spoons were sent to the Kentucky State Police lab for testing to determine what substance is on them.

Wright was arrested at 2:57 a.m. and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and fleeing/evading police on foot. Beasley said that additional charges could be forthcoming, pending KSP lab results.

Wright was taken to the Grayson County Detention Center, where she was lodged as of press time.
