Following a drunk driving accident on Monday, June 30, a local man became physical with arresting officers, then attempted to bribe them, according to the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office.

29-year-old Patrick B. Higdon, of Peonia Road in Clarkson, was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs; reckless driving; disorderly conduct in the second degree; and bribery of a public servant.

According to the accident report filed by Deputy Joey Beasley, who was also the arresting officer in the case, two calls were made by motorists on Anneta Road at around 1:30 a.m. to alert authorities that a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado was driving dangerously at the 7600 block of the roadway.

When Beasley arrived in the area, he discovered the truck lying on it’s passenger side over an embankment around 10 miles south of Leitchfield.

The report states that Higdon was still inside the vehicle at the time, and was “acting irate” and “not listening to EMS [paramedics].”

The windshield had to be cut and removed from the vehicle to extract Higdon, who was then taken into custody.

Beasley determined from the scene that Higdon had been travelling south on Anneta Road (Hwy 259), when he ran off of the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, crossed the north-bound lane of traffic and then went over the embankment, overturning.

According to GCSO Detective Adam Cottrell, Higdon became physically aggressive with first responders at the scene before being transported to Twin Lakes Reginal Medical Center, where he was given a blood alcohol test.

Before being transported to the Grayson County Detention Center, Higdon attempted to bribe officers.

Higdon was processed at the GCDC at 5 p.m. and was released later that day on a $5,000 cash bond.
