A Leitchfield man was arrested following a brief but terrifying encounter with an area teen last week.
34-year-old Wayne R. Blackwood is being charged with burglary in the second degree, criminal trespassing in the first degree, disorderly conduct in the first degree, menacing, and resisting arrest following the Tuesday, July 28 incident which occurred at Valley View Apartments.
According to Sheriff Norman Chaffins, who made the arrest, “Blackwood encountered a 13-year-old girl on the playground at the apartment complex.” After a brief encounter, the 13-year-old ran into the apartment where she was staying with her elderly grandfather.
Chaffins reported that Blackwood followed the girl into the apartment, where she went into the bathroom. “Blackwood attempted to force his way in,” Chaffins said. “She was able to get by him while the grandfather called 9-1-1.”
Blackwood then left the residence, according to the report, and was found sitting on the porch of an adjacent apartment when officers arrived at just before 2:30 p.m.
Officers attempted to arrest Blackwood for trespassing, and when he resisted, Chaffins was forced to shoot him with a taser in order to make the arrest.
Blackwood was transported to the Grayson County Detention Center following his arrest, and is currently being held on a $10,000 cash bond.
Chaffins was assisted at the scene by Deputy Jarrod Mudd.
