Shelter Insurance Agent Donna VanMeter cut the ribbon to celebrate the official opening of her new office on Thursday, July 30.

VanMeter’s new Shelter Insurance office is located at 522 South Main St. in Leitchfield, and VanMeter opted to move to the new location after another company expressed interest in purchasing the house in which her office was originally located.

“We love it down here,” she said of her new office.

Additionally, upon moving to their new, smaller location, the staff of the Leitchfield Shelter Insurance agency went paperless.

“We’re small and compact, but we’re efficient,” said VanMeter, whose agency provides auto, home, and life insurance.

VanMeter’s mother, Anna Edwards, started the original Leitchfield Shelter Insurance agency on Public Square in 1985. Two years later, VanMeter joined the agency.

After Edwards retired in 2008, VanMeter took over the local Shelter Insurance in January of 2009 and went on to a successful career that has, thus far, included becoming a trip-qualifying agent and receiving the Fred V. Heinkel Award for Excellence.

VanMeter’s Shelter Insurance office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and on evenings and weekends by appointment.
