Leitchfield Aquatic Center will be collecting items for the Grayson County Humane Society in the first ever Pledge for Paws day on Friday, July 31.
Individuals who donate any of the items listed below on Friday will receive free admission into Leitchfield Aquatic Center (LAC) on Friday, according to LAC Admissions/Concessions Manager DeAnna Lasley.
The Grayson County Humane Society, which shelters homeless animals and helps to find homes for them, has great need for numerous items to take care of the animals at the shelter.
LAC will accept the following items, which will be handed over to the Grayson County Humane Society, on Friday: Bleach, dish detergent, washing machine detergent, canned cat food, canned dog food, old flat sheets or towels, animal shampoo, dog treats, cat treats, paper towels, and plastic garbage bags.
LAC Director Sabrina Durbin decided to plan Pledge for Paws, which will be an annual event, after she adopted her dog, Raina, a Louisiana Catahoula/beagle mix from an animal shelter.
When adopting Raina, Durbin saw how animal shelters are run and learned how dependent they are on their communities. Additionally, she saw that donations go a long way to help shelters provide animals with more comfort and stretch their budget further.
“It made me realize how important [shelters] are,” Durbin said.
