LPD releases 1st quarter activity report

Matt Lasley | GC News-Gazette The Leitchfield City Council received the Leitchfield Police Department’s first quarter activity report this past Monday.


The Leitchfield Police Department released its first quarter activity report this past Monday, May 15.

Leitchfield Chief of Police Kevin Henderson presented the activity report during the Leitchfield City Council’s regular May 15 meeting and said that the statistics are slightly elevated from last year.

From the month of January through April of this year, the Leitchfield Police Department (LPD) has logged 12,837 total activities.

Henderson said last year saw the LPD log a total of around 30,000 activities, but, if the trend keeps going at the pace of nearly 13,000 per quarter, the year-end tally will be greater than last year.

The activities are divided as follows (note: some may overlap):

In other business:

*The City Council voted to declare the city-owned Recycling Center and adjacent church surplus and to advertise for sealed bids for the property.

*City Councilmember Rick Embry again suggested placing rumble strips on roadways in the city in an effort to combat speeding.

No action was taken on this matter.

*The City Council approved Scotty’s Contracting and Stone’s bids for excavation work and bituminous asphalt for Leitchfield Public Works.

*The City Council voted to approve the Grayson County Water District’s request to rezone a property on Shull White Road from an R1 single-family property to a P1 institutional property to be used for the Water District’s new office.

Then the City Council voted to approve the first reading of an ordinance establishing the rezoning.

*The City Council voted to include in its meeting minutes two proclamations. The first declared May 21-27 National Public Works Week, and the second declared May Drug Court Month.

*The City Council voted to remove Christy Higdon as check signer for the city and add Robin Hayes in her place. Higdon now serves as Accounts Payable for the city.
