Two young men died in separate water-related incidents in the Twin Lakes region over the past weekend.

A day at Rough River Lake with family turned fatal for 26-year-old Breckinridge County resident Andrew Stith, who died during the early evening hours of Saturday, July 18.

According to Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, the death occurred in the Cave Creek area of the lake.

Reports from the scene stated that Stith was racing his sister to a buoy when he went below the water for reasons unknown, and drown.

An unrelated incident on Sunday evening, July 19, claimed the life of 24-year-old Heber Tomas Valle Cardenas.

Cardenas, of Honduras, was reportedly a part of a work crew doing maintenance on the Green River Bridge in Brownsville.

Reports from the scene indicate that Cardenas was swimming in Nolin Lake with co-workers on Sunday when he disappeared.

Cardenas’ body was recovered by Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, assisted by Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office.

Autopsy reports have not yet been released for Cardenas, and no autopsy is expected to be conducted for Stith.
