Former Grayson County High School teacher and baseball coach Gavin Logsdon was indicted last week on the charge of Rape in the 3rd Degree stemming from an alleged sexual relationship between himself and a minor student.
The Grayson County Grand Jury handed down the indictment on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
The indictment states that, on or about Nov. 18, 2016, Logsdon committed the offense of Rape in the 3rd Degree, when, being a person in a position of authority or position of special trust, as defined in KRS 532.045, he, regardless of his age, engaged in sexual intercourse with a minor who was less than 18 years old, with whom he came into contact as a result of that position.
The prosecuting Commonwealth of Kentucky recommended a $10,000 partially secured bond, as set by the District Court.
In addition, per the indictment, Logsdon is to have no contact with the victim.
His next court appearance will be on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 9 a.m.
Logsdon was arrested and charged with 3rd Degree Rape on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016.
Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 4 investigators received a complaint on Monday, Nov. 21 of alleged inappropriate behavior between a juvenile student and a teacher in the Grayson County School system, according to a press release from KSP Trooper Jeff Gregory.
Upon further investigation, on Tuesday, Nov. 22, KSP Detective Bryan Washer charged Logsdon, then 30 years old, with Rape, 3rd Degree, Gregory said in the release.
According to an arrest citation filed by the KSP, Logsdon confessed (after being read Miranda rights) to having a sexual relationship with a then-17-year-old GCHS student.
The arrest citation also states that Logsdon admitted he had been having a sexual relationship with the 17-year-old for several months, and that the last occurrence of this was at his residence on Friday, Nov. 18.
The citation goes on to say that the 17-year-old victim was also interviewed and disclosed the same events, and both parties stated the sexual relationship had been ongoing from June 2016.
Logsdon was subsequently lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center at 3:28 p.m. on Nov. 22. He was released from the detention center at 4:30 p.m. the same day on a $10,000 50-percent-cash bond.
The next day on Wednesday, Nov. 23, Logsdon pleaded not guilty in Grayson County District Court to the charge of Rape, 3rd Degree.
Logsdon resigned from his positions as a Grayson County High School teacher and baseball coach on Monday, Nov. 28.
A preliminary hearing was held for Logsdon on Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, at which time it was stated that the case against Logsdon would be presented for consideration for an indictment.
