A moped crashed into a post displaying the Leitchfield Gatti’s Pizza sign, sending the driver to the hospital, on Thursday night, Feb. 9.
At around 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, the Leitchfield Police Department (LPD) and Grayson County EMS responded to Gatti’s Pizza, located at 619 South Main St. in Leitchfield, on a report of a moped crash.
Witnesses told police that the operator of the moped, Jeremy Lucas, had, prior to the crash, been belligerent with the employees of the neighboring JC’s Cigarette Outlet, whom would not allow him into the business due to his behavior, according to LPD Sergeant Robert Jackson.
Lucas then, according to witnesses, became irate and drove from JC’s on the moped, striking two other vehicles before crashing into the Gatti’s Pizza sign post, Jackson said.
He sustained multiple injuries in the crash and was transported from the scene by Grayson County EMS to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center to receive treatment.
Lucas, who had felony warrants out of Warren County and misdemeanor warrants out of Breckinridge County, was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs/Etc. .08, 3rd Offense, and Driving on DUI Suspended License, 1st Offense, following the incident, Jackson said.
Additionally, Lucas was later transported to University of Louisville Hospital, under the care of the Grayson County Detention Center, to undergo surgery for fractures to his face and leg that he sustained in the crash, according to Jackson.
The moped was totaled as a result of the crash, and was removed from the scene by Ward’s Towing.
