Pending approval from the Leitchfield City Council, Tim Duvall will be the next Chief of the Leitchfield Fire Department.
During their regular meeting on Monday, July 6, Leitchfield Fire Department (LFD) members chose Duvall to be their next Fire Chief following current Chief Jerry Schlosser’s resignation on Wednesday, July 22.
“It’s a great honor to be chosen,” Duvall said.
Duvall, who joined the LFD on Nov. 16, 1992—a day, he said, he remembers “like it was yesterday”—is currently one of two full-time LFD employees and serves as First Assistant Fire Chief.
Duvall attributes his success so far to the late Ronald Hudson, without whom, he said, he probably wouldn’t be where he is today.
Duvall said that while he knows he has his work cut out for him, he will “give 100 percent.”
“I think we can make some positive changes,” said Duvall, who will continue to serve as one of the LFD’s two full-time employees.
Duvall has yet to be officially appointed by the Leitchfield City Council, who will next meet on Monday, July 20 at Leitchfield Fire Station 1 to hold a retirement celebration for Schlosser.
The City Council is expected to discuss Duvall’s appointment to the position of Leitchfield Fire Chief during the July 20 meeting, as well.
Schlosser’s retirement goes into effect as of 12 p.m. on July 22.
