Scotty Gore, long-time Clarkson city commissioner, will take over the reins as the city’s Clerk/Treasurer when the retirement of Alicia Hayes becomes official in December.

Gore submitted his resignation as commissioner at last week’s specially called meeting of the Clarkson Commission. He has been a city commissioner just short of 11 years.

Hayes announced in March that she would be stepping down after 22 years on the job. Gore said he had been thinking about the change since that time and in June began working part-time with Hayes to learn the job so there will be a smooth transition in December.

“I just felt it was time to do something different,” Gore said. “We talked about it and I decided it was something I wanted to do.”

January would have marked Gore’s 11th year as a commissioner and during that time he has developed an insider’s knowledge about Clarkson government, so he already has a good understanding about how things work.

“I’ll just be moving from one side of it to another,” he said.

By law, the city has 30 days from Gore’s resignation date, which was officially Oct. 2, 2016, to appoint someone to replace Gore on the city commission. It is expected the commission will appoint someone at its next regularly scheduled meeting, which will be next Monday, Oct. 10.
