The proposed expansion of the Leitchfield Elizabethtown Community and Technical College (ECTC) Campus has advanced to the next stage.
Of the more than 115 entities who submitted applications to receive a portion of the $100 million set aside for workforce development in Governor Matt Bevin’s budget, the ECTC expansion project was one of 91 selected to fill out an official application to receive funding, according to retired Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center CEO Steve Meredith, who helped spearhead the establishment and construction of the local ECTC campus.
“That’s a victory,” said Meredith, adding that project leaders received notification the project would advance to the next phase on Thursday, Sept. 15.
The proposed 9,000-square-foot expansion would allow for the addition of industrial maintenance and allied health programs at the local ECTC campus, according to Meredith.
ECTC is requesting $5 million of the $100 million in grant funds to expand the Leitchfield campus, and applicants for this funding are required to match 10 percent of the grant funding they request.
In this case, ECTC was required to contribute at least $500,000 to the expansion project, and, thanks to numerous financial commitments from various businesses and community organizations, around $575,000 were raised for this purpose, Meredith said.
“We feel this makes our application strong,” said Meredith.
There is a short turn-around period for applicants to submit their official applications, and the state is expected to select grant recipients by the end of this calendar year, according to Meredith.
Those who are not selected will be eligible to participate in the second round of grant funding; however, it is not yet known when that will take place.
The Leitchfield ECTC campus is located at 101 East Carroll Gibson Blvd.
