Mackenzie Bell played the fiddle at the monthly gospel Grayson County Singing Convention held at the Leitchfield Senior Citizens Center on Aug. 20.

The 10-year-old played several solo instrumentals, including “The Old Rugged Cross,” “Swing Low Sweet Chariot,” and “God Bless America.”

Bell is in the fifth grade and has been playing the fiddle for two years. She often plays at churches, rest homes, and senior centers. She is the daughter of Dr. Arnold Freeman Flener.

Other groups who played Saturday night at the Senior Center included Danny Duvall and the Meeting Creek Singers, Kentucky Sound Old-Time Gospel, New Image, and the Stevensons.

Bell would like to thank Ms. Mary Saltsman and all the people at the Senior Center for making her feel so welcome. She is looking forward to playing again.
