It was announced this week that numerous local businesses and organizations are partnering to garner funds to expand the Leitchfield Elizabethtown Community and Technical College (ECTC) campus.
Retired Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center CEO Steve Meredith—who helped spearhead the establishment and construction of the local ECTC campus—made the announcement during the Thursday, Aug. 11 Grayson County Chamber of Commerce membership luncheon.
Meredith said that $100 million have been set aside for workforce development in Governor Matt Bevin’s budget, and, last Friday, Aug. 5, an application was submitted to request $5 million of the $100 million in grant funds to expand the ECTC Leitchfield campus by 9,000 square feet.
The proposed expansion would allow for the addition of industrial maintenance and allied health programs at the local ECTC campus, according to Meredith.
Applicants for this $5 million grant are required to match 10 percent of the grant ($500,000), and, as of this week, partnerships from numerous local businesses and agencies had resulted in financial commitments of $550,000, Meredith said.
As of Thursday, financial commitments had been made by Grayson County Schools, Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center, American Legion Post 81, Vince Escue, Homeland, The Cecilian Bank, Grayson County Farm Bureau, and ECTC.
Meredith said a decision on whether the state will approve Grayson County’s grant request will be made in October.
The Leitchfield ECTC campus is located at 101 East Carroll Gibson Blvd.
