The Leitchfield Tourism Commission presented a $600 grant to the Grayson County Alliance on Tuesday morning, June 28.
The grant will go toward the Grayson County Alliance’s inaugural Ducking Hunger Regatta, a new fundraiser which will be held on Saturday, Sept. 3 (Labor Day weekend) at Leitchfield Aquatic Center.
During the upcoming Freedom and Fiddling Festival (July 15-16), the Grayson County Alliance will begin accepting sponsorships for up to 2,000 inflatable ducks to be tossed into the Leitchfield Aquatic Center’s lazy river in a “race” to the finish.
The sponsor of the first duck that crosses the finish line will win $1,000, which was donated to the Grayson County Alliance for the event, according to Grayson County Alliance Food Pantry Director Debbie Childress.
Sponsorships will be $5 per duck or $20 for a duck and an event t-shirt. Businesses may also purchase a sponsorship for $50 and receive a sign for their businesses that states they support the Grayson County Alliance.
Funds raised from the sponsorships will benefit the Grayson County Alliance.
The Tourism Commission, during its regular meeting on Tuesday, heard the plans for the Ducking Hunger Regatta and agreed that the event will serve well to both raise awareness for the Grayson County Alliance and close out Leitchfield Aquatic Center’s 2016 season.
