The City of Caneyville voted this week to increase its occupational tax rates, effective July 1, 2016.

The Caneyville City Commission heard and approved the second and final reading of the updated Caneyville occupational tax ordinance during its regular meeting on Monday, June 13.

The move to increase the city’s occupational tax rates came about to offset lost revenue from property taxes and changes in state statutes, such as cities’ no longer being able to charge a loading or unloading fee for merchandise.

Through the increase, Caneyville will raise its occupational tax from $2.00 to $4.00 per week for full-time employees and from $1.00 to $2.00 per week for part-time employees in the corporate limits of Caneyville.

Prior to this change, the City of Caneyville had not altered its occupational tax since 1989.
