Leitchfield Utilities approves budget

Leitchfield Utilities on Thursday, June 16 approved its operating budget for the coming fiscal year.

During the June 16 meeting of the Leitchfield Utilities Commission, the amended Fiscal Year 2015-2016 and proposed Fiscal Year 2016-2017 budgets were placed up for approval.

According to Utilities Commission Chairman Robert Crawford, the projected budget figures at the conclusion of the 2015-2016 fiscal year are as follows:

Revenue: $6,363,000

Expenses: $6,819,845

Net Loss: $456,365

Cash on hand as of June 30, 2016: $10,100,000

Crawford said the utilities project that cash on hand, revenue, and expenses at the conclusion of the 2016-2017 fiscal year will be about the same as this year’s.

According to Crawford, the utilities’ revenue and expenditures are difficult to predict because they ultimately depend on customer usage throughout the year.

Additionally, Crawford said the utilities are budgeting around $387,000 worth of capital improvements in the coming fiscal year.

Following the presentation, the Utilities Commission approved both the Fiscal Year 2015-2016 amended budget and Fiscal Year 2016-2017 proposed budget.

In other business:

*The Utilities Commission approved its chemical bids for the 2016-2017 fiscal year. The total estimated cost of the utilities’ chemicals for the coming year is $197,362.74.

*The Utilities Commission approved the 2016-2017 workers’ compensation proposal from the Kentucky League of Cities.
