The City of Caneyville was recently awarded $3,630 in grant funding for a landscaping project from the Energy and Environment Cabinet (EEC) Division of Waste Management.
Caneyville will use the $3,630 to purchase and place crumb rubber mulch, manufactured from waste tires, as part of a landscaping project around the Caneyville Purple Flash Community Center and Pavilion.
“We are so excited,” said Caneyville City Clerk Connie Gootee of receiving the grant.
The grant is part of $249,526 in total grants awarded earlier this month by the EEC to various Kentucky counties.
The grants derive from the Waste Tire Trust Fund, which was established by the 1998 Kentucky General Assembly and is funded by a $1 fee from each retail sale of a new tire in the state of Kentucky.
The fund helps manage millions of scrap tires generated in Kentucky each year and develop markets for recycled tire products.
