Wigging out

Clarkson is wigging out over the opening of its very own wig store, Let’s Wig Out, earlier this month.

Located at 113 West Main St. and owned by Sheena Delph, Let’s Wig Out seeks to offer affordable wigs of all sizes, shapes, and styles to its customers.

Let’s Wig Out started as a passion project for Delph, who became a wig collector by chance.

Delph herself had health issues that caused her hair to thin and, one day, accompanied a friend in search of a wig to a wig store whom suggested she try one on.

“I tried it and loved it,” said Delph, who said the wig boosted her confidence immediately and inspired her to start collecting them.

“They make you feel good,” she said. “I wear them all. It doesn’t matter what color, what length…Hair is an accessory. I have fun with it.”

When she moved back to Grayson County late last year after her husband, Robert, retired from the Army, Sheena Delph wondered what the next step in her life would be—as well as where she would shop for more wigs, as there were no wig stores close by.

Sheena Delph said she would joke with her husband about opening her own wig store, and one day, her husband, who recognized how confident wigs made her feel, finally told her, “Why not?”

Let’s Wig Out, the culmination of Sheena Delph’s work, officially opened on May 4 and, currently, has 35 wigs on display, but the store can purchase any size and style that a client may want.

Additionally, clients who prefer privacy may call Let’s Wig Out at 270-307-1842 to set up a private appointment.

Sheena Delph is assisted in the style department by Ashley Salsman of Spiff It Up Hair, whom, she said, was brought to her by “fate.”

Salsman has been a hairdresser for 11 years and a few months ago, began looking to open her own shop. She had previously run a shop but closed it and began working for Fantastic Sam’s.

Circumstantially, Salsman happened to look into opening her new Spiff It Up Hair salon in the same building as Let’s Wig Out, so she approached Sheena Delph about working together.

When not cutting hair, Salsman also works with Sheena Delph to cut, trim, and/or style wigs for Let’s Wig Out’s clients.

“I’m hoping to help everybody,” said Sheena Delph. “It’s just a matter of getting the word out that we’re here.”

Let’s Wig Out is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Customers may also call to set up appointments outside of those times.

Spiff It Up Hair is open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, and can be reached at 270-589-7722.
