Officials scout disc golf locations

Local disc golf course designer Everett Lasley took a number of local officials on a walk-through of James D. Beville Park in Leitchfield on Thursday, April 21 to discuss his vision for where the proposed Leitchfield disc golf course and its various holes would be.

Then, during the regular Tuesday, April 26 meeting of the Leitchfield Tourism Commission, officials discussed what they had taken away from the walk-through.

According to Leitchfield Tourism Director Ilsa Johnson, Lasley’s proposal is to install the first nine holes of the disc golf course near the park’s pavilion, and add another nine holes later in the general area of the American Legion Post 81 Veterans Memorial Park and Leitchfield Ballpark Complex.

With a total of 18 holes, the local disc golf course would be able to host tournaments, which is Lasley’s goal; however, the Tourism Commission has not made a final decision as to whether it wants to pursue building all 18 holes in the near future or only the first nine.

Leitchfield Tourism Commission Chair Ryan Bratcher said it was also determined that, due to a property line issue discovered during the walk-through, the last several holes of the course will have to be redesigned.

No action was taken by the Tourism Commission on the disc golf course during the April 26 meeting.
