Four people lost their lives in a head-on collision on Highway 54 Saturday afternoon, April 23.
Shortly after 12 p.m. on Saturday, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Leitchfield Police and Fire Departments, Grayson County Emergency Medical Services, Grayson County Coroner’s Office, and Caneyville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the accident near the 2738 mile-marker of Hwy 54 (about one-and-a-half miles west of Leitchfield).
Shortly after, Grayson County E-911 Dispatch contacted Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 4 to request that a KSP accident reconstructionist respond to the scene.
According to a news release from KSP Post 4, a 1998 GMC Sonoma pickup, operated by Dylan Fleener, 18, of Leitchfield, was travelling west on Hwy 54 with passengers Thomas Davis, 42, of Radcliff, James Vincent, 18, of Leitchfield, and Nicholas Sawyer, 18, of Leitchfield.
For unknown reasons, the GMC crossed the center line and struck a 1995 Ford F-150, driven by Christine Walton, 88, of Falls Of Rough, the release states.
Fleener was transported by ambulance to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.
Davis, Vincent, and Walton were all pronounced dead at the scene by the Grayson County Coroner’s Office.
Sawyer was airlifted to the University Of Louisville Hospital by Air Methods where he is in serious condition, according to the release.
The accident is still under investigation by KSP Trooper Dewan Kelly.
Hwy 54 was closed on either side of the crash, and a detour was arranged while first responders are on the scene.
