Operation Preparation seeks volunteers

Operation Preparation is in need of volunteer career advisors for Grayson County Middle School’s 8th grade students later this month.

Scheduled for Thursday, April 28 and Friday, April 29, Operation Preparation is a joint effort of the Kentucky Department of Education and the Department of Workforce Development, and provides a powerful opportunity for schools, students, parents and communities to collaborate in the process of effective advising and focus attention on the importance of planning for college and/or a student’s future career.

Operation Preparation serves as an opportunity for students and volunteers to get to know each other and for educators to find out what their students are thinking at this point in their lives and education.

Volunteers are given the opportunity to encourage and support children in their goals and decision making, as well as promote the possible career opportunities in Grayson County.

While not all students may be college bound, volunteers and educators can encourage students’ positive efforts in achieving whatever their career goals may be.

GCMS 8th grade sessions, estimated to take about 10 to 20 minutes each, will take place on April 28 and 29, beginning at 9:00 a.m. both days. The meetings are designed to provide both information and inspiration for students to achieve college and career-readiness.

Sessions are scheduled for:

9:19 a.m.-10:14 a.m.

11:15 a.m.-12:45 p.m. (This includes the students’ lunch time.)

12:47 p.m.-1:42 p.m.

Event organizers report that a significant number of 8th grade students have expressed an interest in the fields of nursing, education, veterinary, heavy equipment, and law enforcement.

Anyone with a background in any of these areas is encouraged to come out in order for the students to hear firsthand what to expect if they choose these one of these career paths.

Volunteers will spend about 10 to 20 minutes per student discussing their plans for their future, encouraging them to research all of their options, and pathways they need to take in order to achieve their goals.
