The City of Leitchfield, home of the annual Twin Lakes National Fiddler Championship, was recently recognized by the Kentucky Senate as the “Fiddling Capital of Kentucky.”
The resolution to recognize Leitchfield as the Fiddling Capital of Kentucky was introduced in the Kentucky Senate of the General Assembly by Senators Carroll Gibson and C.B. Embry, Jr. on Feb. 24, and was officially adopted by voice vote on March 4.
In honor of the recognition, the City of Leitchfield will hold a brief celebration on Monday, April 11 at 5 p.m. at the Centre on Main, located at 425 South Main St. in Leitchfield.
The event will be open to the public and, according to the Twin Lakes National Fiddler Championship Facebook page, numerous local fiddlers, orchestra directors, families of fiddlers, and representatives from the Kentucky State Fiddle Championship will be in attendance.
Leitchfield Tourism Director Ilsa Johnson said the recognition from the State Senate is something that the City of Leitchfield and Grayson County should be proud of and will serve to help the Twin Lakes National Fiddler Championship continue to grow.
The 2016 Freedom and Fiddling Festival, during which the Twin Lakes National Fiddler Championship will be held, will take place on Saturday, July 16.
