Both Clarkson and Lawler Elementary schools brought home the gold from District Governor’s Cup competition. In a scheduling twist, Grayson County elementary teams were placed in different districts this year. With the Clarkson and Lawler wins, and Wilkey’s 2nd place finish, the district will have three teams competing in regional Governor’s Cup action later this month.
Clarkson and Lawler took top honors in both Quick Recall and Future Problem Solving (FPS) in their respective districts. Wilkey Elementary placed second overall and in Quick Recall to advance. Caneyville placed a close third in overall district points.
Individual awards were handed out to students who completed written assessments in a variety of subjects. These students will also advance to Regionals.
District 26 (Clarkson): Alex Stewart, 2nd place, Emily Butler, 3rd, Isaac Hart, 5th, Math; Blaine Aubrey, 1st, Rylee Higdon, 4th, and Nolan Hornbeck, 5th in Science; Jake Rogers, Alex Stewart, and Dustin Brown tied for 3rd place in Social Studies; Nolan Hornbeck, 2nd, Ella Gibson, 3rd, Leyla Mattingly, 4th, Language Arts; Jake Rogers and Jacklyn Goble tied for 3rd in Arts and Humanities; Rylee Higdon placed 1st in Composition.
District 27 – (Caneyville): Sierra Secora, 2nd, Math; Jake Rusher, 3rd and Makayla Embry, 4th, Science; Natalie Garrett, 3rd (tie), Cora McMillan, 5th, Language Arts; Makayla Embry, 2nd, and Isabella Weedman, 3rd, Composition.
Lawler: Colton Glenn, 3rd, Alli Wagner, 4th and Dawson Gorby, 5th, Math; Colton Glenn, 1st, Science; Ethan Kerr, 3rd, Katie Dudgeon, 5th, Social Studies; Will Meredith, 1st, Alli Wagner, 3rd (tie), Language Arts; Will Meredith, 5th, Arts and Humanities; Dawson Gorby, 1st place, Composition.
