The Leitchfield Police Department (LPD) and U.S. Postal Inspector are currently investigating an incident involving stolen mail matter.
On Sunday, Feb. 21, the LPD executed a search warrant at a residence on Brandenburg Road on an unrelated incident.
While on the scene, officers located numerous mail items from multiple locations in Grayson County, Hardin County, and Bullitt County, according to a news release from LPD Detective Kevin Smith.
“Several of the pieces of mail were related to current forgery and identity theft cases this agency is currently investigating,” Smith said in the release.
All persons whose mail was located either have been or will be notified soon.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the mail was most likely taken from mailboxes. Some had been left in the boxes to be picked up by postal carriers but were taken before they made the daily delivery, according to Smith.
This case is currently still under investigation.
