GCHS Academic Team finishes 1st at District

The Grayson County High School Academic Team bested rivals including Edmonson County for a first place overall finish at the KAAC Governor’s Cup District competition held Jan. 30.

The GCHS Future Problem Solving team placed first in its competition, with members Shelby Watkins, Abigail Horsley, Kelsey Carwile, Hannah Renfro, and Rachel Hunt; the FPS team is coached by Ellen Thomas.

In English composition, Chris Collett placed third and Shelby Watkins placed fifth. In Mathematics, Shelby Watkins placed first. In Science, Noah Coles placed second. In Social Studies, Noah Coles and Timothy Higgs tied for first place. In Language Arts, Alex Dennis placed second, and Aimee Edens placed fourth; and in Arts and Humanities, Hunter Meredith placed third.

The teams and individual students advance to Regional competition later this month.

The GCHS academic team is coached by Head Coach Sharon Sloan and Assistant Coaches Erina Duvall, Jenni Owen, and Bill Newsome.
