In honor of Clarkson Police Chief Buck Meredith’s upcoming liver donation, the City of Clarkson will host a blood drive this Saturday, Jan. 23 at Clarkson City Hall from 12 p.m. (noon) until 5 p.m.
According to Meredith, who will be donating a portion of his liver next month to his uncle suffering from liver disease, the American Red Cross’s need for blood is at “urgent” levels nationwide.
“The Red Cross is currently 50,000 pints short on a national level,” Meredith said.
All blood types are needed, and one donation can help save up to three lives.
Clarkson Police Officer Rick Clemons said he has challenged other law enforcement agencies, including the Grayson County Detention Center and Leitchfield Police Department, to assist with the blood drive.
“If Buck can give a liver, surely we can give a pint of blood,” Clemons said.
Clarkson City Hall is located at 213 Millerstown St. in Clarkson.
