Corps of Engineers changes recreation fees

As of Friday, Jan. 1, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has changed the recreation day use fees charged for boat launches and beaches managed by USACE to a “simpler fee structure,” officials announced this week.

The fee for the USACE Annual Pass has also changed, according to Diane Stratton, USACE project manager for Rough River Lake.

The USACE conducted a review of its fee structure in 2015 and determined that fee changes are needed to ensure USACE fees remain comparable and fair to those charged by other local providers for similar facilities and services, Stratton wrote in a recent press release.

These fee changes will impact users at Rough River Lake as follows:

Day use fees for use of USACE managed boat ramps have been changed to $5.00 per private non-commercial vehicle and $20.00 for commercial vehicles. Payment of the day use fee entitles the user to launch a boat at any USACE-operated recreation area for that day.

Day use fees are not charged currently at North Fork and Laurel Branch beaches.

Children under the age of 16 are not charged a day use fee.

Holders of the Golden Age or Golden Access Passports and the America the Beautiful Interagency Senior Pass, Access Pass, Annual Pass, Military Annual Pass, Every Kid in A Park Pass, or Volunteer Pass do not have to pay a day use fee. Holders of these passes need only to display the pass on their rear view mirror while using the facility.

America the Beautiful Interagency Passes and hang tags for the display of these passes are available at the Rough River Lake Project Office.

The USACE Annual Day Use Pass fee was increased to $40.00, which entitles the holder and accompanying passengers the daily use of facilities managed by the USACE for one calendar year from the month of purchase, according to Stratton.
