The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) is reminding Grayson County citizens that they may still pay their property taxes now through Thursday, Dec. 31 and avoid a penalty.
“December is the last month that they may still pay the taxes at face value,” Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins wrote in a press release.
Beginning Friday, Jan. 1 and running through Jan. 31, there will be a 5 percent penalty on property taxes paid.
After Jan. 31, the penalty will increase to 21 percent on property taxes paid. The 21 percent penalty will run from Monday, Feb. 1 through April 15, 2016.
The GCSO, located at 44 Public Sq. in Leitchfield, will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas day but will be open on New Year’s Eve until 4 p.m.
