With the Christmas holiday right around the corner, the Grayson County Ministerial Association (GCMA) is once again gearing up to provide families with the ingredients needed to prepare a good meal for the family during the holidays.
According to Tracy Dennison, GCMA Secretary, the Christmas Food Basket program is the largest project that CGMA does all year.
“We sponsor and support other projects during the year, but this is by far the largest and one of the most dear to my heart,” Dennison said. “I’ve been involved for over 10 years, and every year I am blessed to hear story after story of how this food enabled families to have a good meal for Christmas.”
Dennison explained that all those in need are eligible for a food basket, and they can sign up at the Community Action office.
“Most applications are completed when the families sign up for heating assistance, but that is not a requirement. We want to ensure that everyone has food for a holiday meal,” Dennison said.
GCMA expects to provide between 750-1,000 baskets this year.
The average cost of each food basket is between $15.00-$16.00. GCMA relies on donations from area churches, businesses and individuals.
“We need our churches to donate, possibly having a special offering just for this program,” said Dennison. “Anyone can donate—no amount is too small, and all donations are tax deductible.”
Donations a can be mailed to:

But this story doesn’t stop there; the other side of this project is the community involvement.
Assembly of the food baskets is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 18 at 5:00 p.m. at the Grayson County Fairgrounds, and everyone is encouraged to come out and be a part of it. Distribution will the following Saturday.
