American Legion Post 81 is gearing up for the holiday season by taking donations for its annual Shop with a Veteran program and food basket drive.

This year’s Shop with a Veteran will be held on Saturday, Dec. 12, and Post 81 looks to take about 24 children, most of whom are from veterans’ families, to Walmart to shop for necessities and toys.

Additionally, Post 81 Commander Shane Thomason said that, for this year’s Shop with a Veteran, the local American Legion applied for a grant through the Walmart foundation and received $2,400.

Shop with a Veteran participants will meet at 9 a.m. on Dec. 12 and go to Walmart at 10 a.m.

Post 81 members are also holding their annual holiday food basket drive. The food baskets will be presented to more than 25 families.

To make a donation to either or both of these programs, visit Post 81. Donations should be made out to American Legion Post 81 with the desired program specified in the memo line.

“Any donations to any Legion programs are appreciated,” Thomason said.

Anyone with questions is encouraged to contact Post 81 at 270-259-6293 and leave a message for Thomason.
