Grayson County teachers Jerri Johnston and Stacy French have achieved National Board Certification, a performance-based accomplishment that recognizes these educators among the top in the profession.
Johnston is a veteran preschool teacher in her ninth year at Clarkson Elementary. French is in her fifth year teaching orchestra districtwide.
Completion of the voluntary NBCT program provides teachers with the highest certification they can attain. Participation not only recognizes skills, but improves them as well.
French found that the process caused her to “look at things I do automatically and ask ‘why,’ which in turn has helped me use ideas in different ways.”
The year-long process includes a rigorous, peer-review of the skills required to analyze and advance student achievement.
Applicants must also submit a multi-part portfolio of their work, student samples, demonstrate school and community partnerships, and pass a demanding written test.
