Deck the halls and get the jingle bells ready – it’s time to start preparing for local Christmastime events!

With November drawing to a close, Grayson Countians are ramping up for a bevy of holiday events such as annual Christmas tree lighting ceremonies and the Hometown Christmas Parade.

Any businesses and organizations interested in creating a display for Christmas in the Park are encouraged to reserve their spot soon. Groups may set up their displays between Friday, Nov. 20 and Wednesday, Dec. 2.

The event will kick off with a lighting ceremony at James D. Beville City Park at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, and displays will remain lit for the entire month of December.

To reserve your spot or ask questions about the event, contact Ilsa Johnson, Leitchfield Tourism Director by calling 270-259-5587.

Other events on Friday, Dec. 4 include lighting ceremonies for the cities of Clarkson and Caneyville.

Each city will be hosting their ceremonies at 6 p.m.

Clarkson’s event will be held in the city’s new city hall and community center building on Millerstown Street. Attendees can also expect an array of treats and a visit from Santa, who will arrive on a Clarkson Volunteer Fire Department truck to take Christmas requests from the children.

The Caneyville lighting will be held at the old Caneyville School. The event will take place outside of the school if weather permits, but will be moved inside in the event of rain.

The city will provide refreshments and Bank of Caneyville will be giving out gift bags to attendees. Santa will also be on hand at the event.

The annual Hometown Christmas Parade is scheduled for the following day, Saturday, Dec. 5. The parade kicks off at 10 a.m. from the Grayson County Fairgrounds and will travel to the Southgate Mall.

The theme for this year’s parade, which is put together by The Grayson County Chamber of Commerce, is “Winter Wonderland.”

For more information about the parade, contact the Chamber by calling 270-259-5587.
