A SUV crashed into an utility pole, sending the driver to the hospital on Friday afternoon, Nov. 13.

At approximately 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) and Grayson County Emergency Medical Services (GCEMS) personnel were called to the scene of the crash at the intersection of Owensboro Road and Concord Road in Leitchfield.

According to an accident report by investigating GCSO Sergeant Bryan Hammons, a tan 1996 Ford Explorer was travelling westbound when the driver, Sandra Stowe, 49, of Fordsville, KY, looked down at her cell phone.

The report states that when Stowe looked back up, the Ford had left roadway and proceeded to crash into a Warren Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation (RECC) utility pole.

Stowe, the only individual inside the Ford at the time of the crash, was transported from the scene by GCEMS to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center to receive treatment for non-life-threatening, accident-related injuries, Hammons said.

The Warren RECC utility pole was left damaged and, Hammons said, “very unstable” as a result of the crash and required repairs.
