Area residents have the opportunity once again this year to give the gift of Christmas to children in need around the globe.
First Baptist Church of Leitchfield is serving as a drop-off site for Operation Christmas Child, an annual holiday program by Samaritan’s Purse International Relief.
Participants pack a special Operation Christmas Child shoe box with toys, school supplies, personal hygiene items and notes of encouragement, which will then be sent to an impoverished boy or girl in another country.
“This year, project coordinators from Leitchfield and surrounding areas hope to collect 15,000 shoe box gifts to deliver to children in need overseas,” said Operation Christmas Child representative Dana Williams.
Everyone is encouraged to put together a box, but time will soon be running out. Interested participants need to have their boxes turned in between Nov. 16 and 23 so that they can be sent out in time for the holiday.
