Officers arrested a Leitchfield man for numerous drug-related charges at a Clarkson convenience store earlier this week.

Clarkson Police Chief Buck Meredith, with assistance from a Kentucky State Police Post 4 Trooper, made contact with 46-year-old James Kerr outside of the Ready Mart located at 201 East Main Street in Clarkson at approximately 8 p.m. on Sunday evening, Nov. 8.

The officers discovered upon further investigation that Kerr was in possession of various drugs as well as a suspected methamphetamine lab hidden in a duffel bag.

According to Meredith, Kerr was in control of a 1994 Chevrolet pick-up truck, which was backed into a parking spot at the location. The duffel bag was in the back of the truck, containing what appeared to be a meth lab as well as supplies known to be used in the manufacture of the illegal drug.

The officers also discovered “a small amount of methamphetamine on his person” as well as marijuana and prescription drugs.

Kerr was arrested and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center (GCDC). As of press time on Tuesday, Kerr was still being held at the GCDC on a $25,000 cash bond.

Kerr is being charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs; operating a motor vehicle on a DUI-suspended license, first offense; possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle; possession of marijuana; possession of a controlled substance in the second degree, codeine; possession of a prescription controlled substance not in its original container; buying/possession of drug paraphernalia; manufacturing methamphetamine in the second degree; and possession of a controlled substance in the first degree, methamphetamine.

Clarkson Police Department and Kentucky State Police were assisted at the scene by Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and the Greater Hardin County Narcotics Task Force.
