The City of Caneyville accepted donations toward the Caneyville Community Center Project during Monday night’s regular monthly meeting.
Serving as a Zumba representative, Melonie Dennison presented city commissioners with $340 that had been raised toward the project. Former area schoolteacher G. L. Hayes gave the group a check for $500. The Class of 1974 also came together to donate another $170 toward the project.
“[The] Commission is very appreciative as well as excited with the involvement they continue to see in this project,” wrote City Clerk Brenda Brown. “Plans are underway to start on another room in the near future.”
Upcoming fundraisers are also scheduled, including a chili supper and auction on Saturday, Nov. 21. Chili will be served at 12 noon, and the auction is scheduled to follow at 2 p.m.
A previously scheduled three-point shootout will also be hosted by the Friends of Caneyville High School, though the event will need to be rescheduled, with the new time and date to be announced soon.
In other city news:
– The commission discussed preparations for the Bluegrass Opry to be held this Friday, Oct. 16. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m, and refreshments will be served. The commissioners hope to make this an annual event.
– Commissioner Debbie Embry made a motion to purchase 10 six-feet long tables to be placed in the community center, with the stipulation that the total cost come in at under $500. The measure passed unanimously.
