The first of the City of Leitchfield’s free movie nights will be held next Friday, Oct. 16.
Starting at 7 p.m. on Oct. 16, two films will be shown outdoors in the Babe Ruth ball field, located behind Grayson County Middle School.
Casper will air first, as a more all-ages, family-friendly offering, and it will be followed at 9 p.m. by Beetlejuice, as something for older viewers.
Attendees of the free movie showings are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket. The Grayson County High School DECA club will serve concessions during the event, as well.
“We’re really, really excited to be able to offer this to the public,” said Leitchfield Tourism Director Ilsa Johnson. “For as long as I can remember, the number one request for things to do has been [showing movies].”
Additionally, a second movie night will be offered on Friday, Oct. 30 in the same location, starting at the same time.
The second movie night will begin with Monsters, Inc., starting at 7 p.m., and end with Monster House, starting at 9 p.m.
Johnson said there will be two free movie nights in November, as well, and those will be screened in a drive-in setting (where attendees may watch the films from their vehicles) at the Centre on Main in Leitchfield.
The November movies are expected to be selected soon, Johnson said.
The movies will cost the Leitchfield Tourism Commission, per night, a total of $1,186, including the cost of the screen. The Tourism Commission is partnering with R&B Productions to screen the movies.
Provided there is good turnout for the upcoming movie nights, Leitchfield Tourism will try to host free movie nights year-around, according to Johnson.
