A bomb threat was called in to Pizza Hut in Leitchfield tonight.
The Leitchfield Police and Fire Departments, as well as Grayson County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) and Grayson County Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the restaurant, located in the Southgate Mall, shortly after 8 p.m.
Pizza Hut and neighboring businesses were evacuated while numerous Leitchfield police officers and GCSO deputies and special deputies investigated the premises.
According to Leitchfield Police Department Patrolman Jesse Townsend, law enforcement searched the entire area and found nothing, ultimately determining that the bomb threat was “a hoax.”
Townsend said the restaurant had reportedly run out of pizzas, which is believed to be the motive for the threat.
“This is going to have to be looked at,” said Townsend, adding that the staff of the local Pizza Hut will contact their corporate office to review phone records and trace the call.
“There will be an open investigation, and we’ll find out who did it,” Townsend said. “If it was a joke, go ahead and turn yourself in.”
Emergency personnel cleared the scene at around 8:45 p.m., and the Pizza Hut staff chose to resume business as usual, Townsend said.
No injuries were reported.
