Nearly eight months after it was severely damaged by a fire, Ralph’s Market re-opened to great community support on Thursday, Oct. 1.
Several hundred customers and supporters went out to Ralph’s Market, located at 10718 Anneta Rd. in Leitchfield, on Thursday—a pleasant surprise for Ralph Harrison, owner and operator of the local grocery store.
“I’m just thrilled,” Harrison said. “It’s unbelievable the support we got—even when [the store] was down.”
Ralph’s Market, which originally opened in 1969 before being bought by Harrison in 1990, was closed for seven months and three weeks following a “traumatic” Feb. 8, 2015 fire, Harrison said.
“It was pretty devastating,” he said.
However, Ralph Harrison and his wife, Beverly, set about restoring the business, with Allen Pierce making new signs and R.L. Smith doing construction, and this week, the community welcomed the business back with open arms.
“People have been good to us over the years,” said Ralph Harrison, adding that he and his wife are thankful for the community’s support.
Ralph’s Market has a full line of groceries, a hot deli, plate lunches on certain days, and fishing supplies, among other items, and is open seven days a week from 5 a.m. to 8 or 9 p.m.
