Leitchfield Utilities voted this week to raise its water rates, effective the next billing cycle.

During its regularly scheduled, Thursday, Sept. 17 meeting, the Leitchfield Utilities Commission was presented with a proposed rate increase for city water rates.

Utilities Chairman Robert Crawford recommended that the Utilities Commission adopt the proposed rate increase to help cover a $214,000 deficit between revenues and expenditures for the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2015.

The rate increases are as follows:

In Town:

The rate for up to 2,000 gallons will increase from $15.25 to $16. This will be the minimum bill for in-town Leitchfield water customers.

The rate for the next 8,000 gallons (above 2,000 gallons) will increase from $7.14 per 1,000 gallons to $7.21 per 1,000 gallons.

The rate for the next 40,000 gallons (above 2,000 gallons) will increase from $4.86 per 1,000 gallons to $4.91 per 1,000 gallons.

The rate for over 50,000 gallons (above 2,000 gallons) will increase from $3.57 per 1,000 gallons to $3.61 per 1,000 gallons.

For example, if an in-town customer has 3,000 gallons of water, his or her bill will be $16 (minimum payment) plus $7.21 for the additional 1,000 gallons over 2,000, Utilities Superintendent Dwight Embry said.

Out of Town:

The rate for up to 2,000 gallons will increase from $16.75 to $17.58. This will be the minimum bill for out-of-town Leitchfield water customers.

The rate for the next 8,000 gallons (above 2,000 gallons) will increase from $7.85 per 1,000 gallons to $7.93 per 1,000 gallons.

The rate for the next 40,000 gallons (above 2,000 gallons) will increase from $5.34 per 1,000 gallons to $5.40 per 1,000 gallons.

The rate for over 50,000 gallons (above 2,000 gallons) will increase from $3.92 per 1,000 gallons to $3.96 per 1,000 gallons.

After being read the proposed rates, and based on Crawford’s recommendation, the Utilities Commission voted to adopt the proposed water rate increase. The new rates will go into effect the next billing cycle, Embry said.
