A Clarkson man was arrested for drunk driving following a Lone Oak Road collision on Thursday.
At just after 1 p.m. Sheriff Norman Chaffins responded to a two-vehicle collision approximately four miles west of Millerstown in a sharp curve.
According to Chaffins’ report, a 1987 Dodge Ram being was travelling south, operated by Robert Sparks, and a 1997 Chevrolet pick-up truck was travelling north, operated by Robert Meredith, when the two vehicles met in the curve.
Sparks’ truck reportedly sideswiped Meredith’s truck, and then stopped immediately in the roadway. Chaffins wrote that the positioning of the vehicles indicated that Sparks was likely over the center line of the roadway when his vehicle struck Meredith’s.
Further, Sparks reportedly had a “strong smell of alcoholic beverage on his person” and failed field sobriety tests administered by Chaffins at the scene.
Sparks, 53, of Wheelers Mill Road in Clarkson, was arrested at the scene for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and was taken to the Grayson County Detention Center.
There were two passengers in Sparks’ truck, 53-year-old Beverly Sparks and 38-year-old Julia Oldham. Neither the passengers nor drivers suffered any injuries in the incident, though the vehicles both received minor to moderate damage.
