What risk of diabetes do I have if I had gestational diabetes while I was pregnant?

Your lifetime risk of diabetes is very high with having had gestational diabetes. Start now working to prevent the onset of diabetes. Take small steps to change your lifestyle.

Try to limit carbohydrate intake to 100 grams daily. Read all food labels. Avoid high fructose corn syrup containing foods and start eating more fresh fruits and vegetables. Focus on the brighter colored foods. The brighter the color, the greater the nutrition content is and the lower the natural sugar content is.

Exercise at least 30 minutes a day.

Check with your physician before any exercise.

The goal is to be and stay at your ideal body weight with a body mass index between 18 and 25. If you need extra help, please call my office for an appointment.
