Kentucky’s oldest pizza family has brought its more than 50 years of experience making pizza to Leitchfield with the opening this week of Rough River Pizza Company & Inn.
Owners Blake and Teresa Leucht opened the new restaurant this past Monday, Aug. 3 at 400 North Main St. in Leitchfield.
Blake Leucht said his father founded the first pizza place in Owensboro, KY, PizzARoma, in 1963, and he has been working in the pizza business since he was old enough to push a broom for his father, who was recently inducted into the U.S. Pizza Hall of Fame.
Recently, Blake and Teresa Leucht, the founders of Vino’s in Bowling Green, bought a house on Rough River, where they hoped to retire, but after moving to Grayson County, they saw a need for an Italian restaurant.
After the building at 400 North Main St. was placed up for sale, the Leuchts purchased their “ideal” property and remodeled it into Rough River Pizza Company & Inn, Blake Leucht said.
The restaurant serves pizza, pasta, calzones, sandwiches, wings, salads, a full sit-down bar, and live entertainment, as well as a lunch buffet Monday through Friday for $9.99 and a Friday and Saturday night buffet for $11.99.
“It’s a good place to watch the games,” Blake Leucht said.
Rough River Pizza Company & Inn opens at 11 a.m. every day and also offers delivery after 4 p.m. The owners are playing it by ear regarding closing time, but, tentatively, the restaurant closes at 9 p.m. through the week and 10 p.m. on Saturday.
Additionally, Rough River Pizza Company & Inn has five hotel rooms that start out at $50.
