Arnold Toynbee, the distinguished historian, said, “No major nation has ever been murdered. They have committed suicide and rotted on the inside.” I cast my lot with those who believe that our nation is in decline. Our greatest threat is not from without, but within. We have long been on the path of committing suicide. Our disobedience to the laws of God seems to be more blatant every year. If our nation is to remain blessed we must be right before God, live right before men, and stand for what is right.
What can we do? Personally, we can repent of any known sin and recommit our lives to Christ. We need to quit riding the fence and choose whom we will serve. Prayers must be offered for our nation and all our leaders from the city hall to the White House. We must not allow a minority of people to rob us of our spiritual heritage. Our lives must be live in such a way that by attitude, belief and deeds we will show our trust in God.
What a list! But we can do all these things. The result will be that our nation will be strengthened. Pray unceasingly for our nation and its leaders. Live righteously seven days a week. Seek to win everyone you can to faith in Christ. Christians who think right, act right and live daily for Christ will make our nation stronger.
Our founding fathers had a strong desire to be pleasing to God and to do His will. May future generations say the same of us! Thomas Jefferson said, “Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever.” May God forgive and bless America!
