There will be plenty of flowers to see and advice about gardening to hear on June 19 during the Grayson County Master Gardener’s Garden Tour, Luncheon, & Tea.

The tour will begin at 1 p.m. at the Jack Thomas House with refreshments and a list of the home throughout the county that will be available to tour.

There will be a $10 cost to tour the homes.

“There are six homes that will be highlighted for touring of their unique landscaping and gardening ideas, “ said Master Gardener, Alfreda Weedman. “There will be a Master Gardener at each location to answer questions.”

Four of the yards are in Leitchfield, with one located in Clarkson and the last home is in the Falls of Rough Area.

Although the gardeners host many events each year this will be the first tour of local homes.

“This is the first time we have done anything like this. The reason for the tour is to give people a chance to look at different landscaping designs for ideas,” said Weedman. “It also gives people the opportunity to ask questions and get tips about landscaping. If nothing else it is a chance to stroll around and see what is going on.”

The homes will be open for touring from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. with the exception of the one in Falls of Rough. Because that location is further away than the rest of the homes the owners agreed to allow the tour to continue until 5 p.m.

Those that attend the event will be given a map and asked to get signatures at each location then return turn in the paper. One lucky person will have their name drawn and win a $50 gift basket.

The proceeds from the event will go into the Master Gardener’s fund to help pay for one of the many projects the gardeners do around the Grayson County Community.

The Grayson County Master Gardeners currently have 24 members that have taken a class offered by the University of Kentucky Extension Office and performed 40 hours of hands on training.

The Gardeners gain useful knowledge and experience allowing them to share their time and expertise with other gardeners.
