People often dream of getting the opportunity to compete on a nationally-syndicated television show, but for Mark Logsdon, that chance became a reality.

Logsdon, who is a native of Leitchfield, was chosen on November 12 as a contestant for "The Singing Bee", which airs on the Country Music Television network. Six contestants compete for a possible top prize of $10,000. They are tested on their knowledge of musical lyrics from famous songs. Sixty-percent of songs played are country music, while the remaining 40 percent comes from other popular genres of music. Melissa Peterman is the host of the show.

Logsdon's episode aired for the first time on January 29 at 8 p.m. central time on CMT.

Viewers were able to see Logsdon correctly sing three out of five songs played in the Final Countdown round. Although he did not win the top prize, he was able to take home a $1,500 check for his efforts.

Logsdon advised that a lot of the shooting scenes were cut out for television, because of editing for time.

"What you don't see is that they had to stop filming a couple of times," he laughed, "because I am a mumbler. They were trying to figure out what I was saying. I was also sick on the show. I had more makeup folks than Melissa Peterman had. The LA air was not working for me at all. The makeup team had to keep me from looking so white on air."

As for the winnings, Logsdon has not received the check yet. The reason is because CMT producers did not want him spending all the money before the show aired, and people catching on that he was a winner of the cash.

"I was more nervous watching the show on Friday than taping it in November," Logsdon advised. "I didn't know what they were going to cut out. I never thought when I walked into the audition room that Sunday in October that I'd get the chance to compete on the show. I just went down there because I was bored and ended up getting a once-in-a-lifetime experience."

Logsdon flew to Los Angeles, CA on November 11 of last year, to begin filming on the 12th for the next episode of "The Singing Bee". For Logsdon, it was a series of first-time experiences that he will never forget.

"I had booked flights and confirmed hotels for my clients," he revealed, "but had never done much traveling myself. This was my first flight and it was the first time I had ever packed a suitcase. I had to borrow a suitcase from one of my friends."

Filming for the show took most of the day on the 12th.

"We had to give up everything for the taping," Logsdon remembered. "You could not have cell phones, iPods or anything like that. They didn't want you to have access to any type of music."

There were several rounds of auditions that Logsdon had to go through to get on the show. The first round of testing involved finishing lyrics to 50 songs. The second round involving playing a song, and singing the next line.

"The third round I had to sing the entire chorus of a song," he mentioned. "I thought to myself, 'I am done' after I missed the Kenny Rogers song that the judges chose for me. The execs. said they would let me stay if someone missed the chorus to a song, then I would have to sing it. I had to sing Cher "Turn Back Time" and luckily got it right. They called me back two days later to let me know I was in the finals."

He felt embarrassed to admit that he knew all of the lyrics to a Cher song, but was glad it gave him the chance to perform on the CMT show.

"Melissa Peterman is one of my favorite people," Logsdon explained. "She was very down to earth, surreal and everything you thought she would be."

Logsdon is a 2002 graduate of Grayson County High School. He moved to Nashville, TN in 2004 to pursue a career in the music business. After graduating from Middle Tennessee State University, he began a career as a publicist at PLA Media in 2007. He also manages country duo Brothers Finch featuring twin brothers Brandon and Dustin Finch.

"I met the guys at a country radio seminar," Logsdon said. "I first started out on the PR side for them, and when they saw the success I had, they offered me the chance to take over the manager role."

Logsdon is also the founding owner of production and branding company Iron Trio. The business combines all facets of music design and production at a central location.

"The show was just for fun," he explained. "I really want to work in artist management, but my role right now is mostly in publicity."
