H.W. Wilkey Elementary was recently honored for raising more money than any other school in the state of Kentucky for Jump Rope for Heart.

Wilkey students raised a total of $6,650 for heart research this year - double the amount raised last year, according to Wilkey Physical Education Teacher Kathy Boone.

Individuals pledged donations based on how many times students can jump rope, Boone said.

Out of the 550 students enrolled at Wilkey, more than 300 participated in the Jump Rope for Heart event, hosted by the Heart Association, this year.
