A Leitchfield business owner was arrested on Thursday, Feb. 20 for stealing utility services after those services to his office had been disconnected.
According to Leitchfield Police Department Detective Kevin Smith, officers investigated the Mill Street location of Sander’s Radiator and AC, where they arrested the owner, 50-year-old Tommie Seymore “Sarge” Miller.
Miller was charged with wanton endangerment in the first degree and theft of services. He was transported to the Grayson County Detention Center, where he was currently being lodged as of press time.
Smith explained that Leitchfield Utilities (LU) had shut off both water and natural gas service at the business on or about Jan. 24 of this year and removed the utility meters at the office, located at 415 Mill Street. However, when LU employees came back to check on the disconnects, they observed that the water meter “had been bypassed and the lock on the natural gas line had been removed and the line had been bypassed with a vehicle radiator hose in order to supply the business with utilities.”
Smith said that LPD, along with LU, would like to remind everyone of the dangers involved with tampering with any type of utilities. Natural gas in particular is extremely volatile and should a leak occur, it could result in a fire or even an explosion.
Smith encourages anyone with information about this or another crime to contact LPD at 270-259-3850. Tips and information can also be submitted to the agency through their website, www.leitchfieldpolice.org. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may do so.
